Land's End

The name itself is so poetic. There's something very romantic about the theory of a flat earth, that at some point you might come to the end and fall into the abyss. Sutro Baths and the Land's End hiking trail in San Francisco remind me of why I love the water so much. Not in a Los Angeles beaches sort of way, but in the moody, crashing oceans of the Northern California coast sort of way. Oceans so big and expansive and unweildy that they remind you of the inherent powerlessness of human beings, despite all that we have built and created.

We spent the day walking the trail, feasting our eyes on the great expanses of the ocean, and it all felt a little bit like the one of my favorite paintings, Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, by Caspar David Freidrich. Later we stopped for coffee at Jane, and spent some time wandering Filmore, before making our way to dinner at Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine. We ended the night lounging in Dolores Park, indulging in ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery. All in all, a very San Francisco kind of day.
